EFSA: Penconazole, MRLs Review - International Nut & Dried Fruit Council

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the Reasoned Opinion on “Review of the existing maximum residue levels for penconazole according to Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005”.
 
Penconazole belongs to the group of triazole compounds which are used as a fungicide. It causes inhibition of C-14-demethylase in sterol biosynthesis. It is a systemic preventative and curative fungicide and is used as foliar application for the control of fungal disease in a range of crops.
 
Among others, the following recommendations were derived:

  • maintain the existing MRL in almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts at 0.05 ppm.
  • replace the existing MRL in apricots at 0.1 ppm by 0.08 ppm, in plums at 0.05* ppm by 0.09 ppm, in table grapes at 0.2 ppm by 0.5 ppm.
